In Egypt, there is no single rule: many patients can go home the same day after smaller liposuction, while others are observed overnight. The main factors are the amount of fat removed, the type of anesthesia, the number of areas treated, your general health, and whether other procedures were done at the same time.
Smaller-volume liposuction under local anesthesia or tumescent anesthesia with light sedation is often same-day if your vital signs are stable, pain is controlled, you have no significant nausea, you can drink fluids, and a responsible adult can take you home. General anesthesia usually requires longer observation until you are fully awake, breathing comfortably, and safe for discharge.
Larger-volume liposuction or multiple areas may require an overnight stay because of fluid shifts, swelling, pain control, and monitoring for dizziness or blood pressure changes. Some surgeons may recommend 24 hours or more for larger volumes even if you feel okay. There is no universal cutoff, so the surgeon should assess your individual case.
Before booking, ask the clinic:
- What anesthesia will be used?
- What are the usual discharge criteria?
- Is overnight observation routinely recommended for your planned volume?
- Who can you contact after hours if concerns arise?
- When is a follow-up visit needed?
If you are traveling from abroad, also ask when it is safe to fly, because this can affect how long you should stay locally after discharge.
