For the first time in November 1898, at a meeting of the City Duma in Tomsk, the issue of the need to have a hospital for infectious patients in the city was raised.
On June 9, 1903, the City Duma held elections for the "Duma doctor for the 4th medical district with the management of the city hospital for infectious patients." Gennady Evgenievich Sibirtsev was elected by closed voting. From that moment on, G.E. Sibirtsev's entire life was connected with the hospital for infectious patients. In 1907 and 1911, he was re-elected to this position and remained there until 1936.
Considering the city's high need for infectious disease beds, in 1989, construction began on a new infectious disease hospital with 150 beds according to a standard design at 98 I. Chernykh Street, where the G.E. Sibirtsev Children's Infectious Diseases Hospital is now located. In July 2004, the treatment building with 50 boxed beds was fully commissioned, and in 2008, the paraclinical building was completed, which houses a pharmacy, laboratory service, central sterilization department, intensive care unit, administration, telephone exchange, conference hall, and classrooms for the Department of Children's Infectious Diseases of the Siberian State Medical University.
