HIA-CHU Parakou was built as a modern hospital with a 100-bed capacity for both primary care and advanced medical and surgical services. Structure and funding were supported by a substantial Chinese government grant and partnerships. It was designed to serve as one of the pillars of the national health system in northern Benin, providing both routine and specialist care and functioning as a key teaching hospital for the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Parakou.
