I had heard very bad things about the medical service in Slovakia, but fortunately in the 1 and a half years I have lived here I have never gotten sick. Yesterday I had to go to the emergency room because of an uncontrollable migraine. I was nervous because I don't speak much Slovak (I'm from Mexico). I was accompanied by 2 other friends who are also Latinos and neither of them spoke Slovak. My husband is Slovak and he was on his way but when they admitted me to the emergency room they surprisingly spoke English, I thought it would take a while to admit me but no, I was seen by Dr Tung Cao Thanh who spoke wonderful English, the entire staff was extraordinary with me doing their best speaking English (they even let my husband stay with me when they put the medicine in my vein), then a neurologist came who also spoke English, then they had to put more medicine in my vein and my husband couldn't be in that area anymore so I was alone, but there was a nurse who spoke English and came to check on me all the time to see how I was feeling, also worth mentioning the orderlies who even though they didn't speak fluent English, they tried and even played music for me to cheer me up! Definitely incredible staff, I really appreciate their attention and the effort they made to speak English with me and take care of me.
