Founded on December 29, 1988, Hospital Santa Mônica was established by Dr. Fausto Martins, Dr. Vitório Alves, Dr. Paulo Rodrigues, and biochemist Dr. Magno Borba. The hospital occupies a 3,600 m² area across four floors, providing comprehensive healthcare services to the community of Imperatriz and surrounding regions.

In 2016, the hospital initiated the Instituto Misericordiae Vultus, a philanthropic initiative aimed at providing free medical care to underserved populations. Through this institute, over 2,000 consultations have been conducted, and 16 life-saving cardiac surgeries have been performed .​
