The National Taiwan University Hospital was founded in 1895 and was originally located in Dadaocheng, Taipei City. It moved to its current location (now called the West Site) in 1898. It was a wooden building at the time, and in 1912 it began to be renovated into a Renaissance-style tropical building. It was completed in 1921 and was the largest and most modern hospital in Southeast Asia at the time.

In 1991, the new building (now called the East Site) was completed, and the two hospitals were connected by the Jingfu underground passage. Currently, the number of employees exceeds 7,500, with more than 2,600 beds and more than 9,000 outpatient services per day.
