Suzhou Fifth People's Hospital was founded in 1959. It is a tertiary-level A hospital with infectious diseases, liver diseases, lung diseases, occupational diseases and skin diseases as its main features, and comprehensive development of internal medicine, surgery, traditional Chinese medicine, obstetrics and gynecology, etc. It integrates preventive health care, medical treatment, rehabilitation, scientific research, and teaching. It has distinct specialty characteristics and advantages and strong comprehensive medical treatment capabilities. The hospital is listed as Suzhou Occupational Disease Hospital, Suzhou University Affiliated Infectious Disease Hospital, Suzhou Dermatology and STD Prevention and Treatment Center. It is a teaching hospital for Suzhou University, Nanjing Medical University and other institutions, and a master's and doctoral degree awarding point for infectious diseases at Suzhou University and Xuzhou Medical University. There are more than 20 clinical medical and technical departments, among which the Department of Hepatology, Department of Tuberculosis and Department of Occupational Diseases are provincial clinical key specialties, and there are 5 municipal key medical disciplines, 12 municipal clinical key specialties, 2 municipal emergency medical rescue bases, 2 municipal clinical medical centers, 3 municipal key laboratories, and 3 nursing training bases.
