The UAB Center for Palliative and Supportive Care (UAB CPSC), one of the University-Wide Interdisciplinary Research Centers (UWIRC), was established by the Board of Trustees of The University of Alabama on November 17, 2000. We are the national leader in the field of palliative and supportive care, with demonstrated leadership in compassionate clinical care, collaborative research, community outreach and training. We use a comprehensive approach to caring for people with serious illness by focusing on the whole patient, addressing the physical, emotional, social and spiritual suffering of disease. Beginning at the moment of diagnosis, palliative care can help address symptoms and set goals for care, focusing on quality of life, dignity and respect.

I don’t have the words to express just how amazing and how grateful I am for all of the doctors, nurses, aids and even the janitorial staff that work in the UAB Palliative wing. There are too many names to post so this is for all that work that wing. This floor became the final resting place for our Momma D. The staff I was blessed to know through our family’s toughest time felt like family and not hospital staff. They treated us as family with every interaction. The grace they offered on the days she wasn’t so easy to handle was the first time she truly experienced that feeling by someone that wasn’t blood. She loved all of them. They all will forever have a special place in our hearts. They truly are angels that walk among us.
