Established in 1881 as the Weihsien Shantung American Presbyterian Hospital by the United Presbyterian Church of North America, Weifang People's Hospital has evolved into a comprehensive medical institution. Renamed in January 1984, it was designated as a 3A-grade hospital by the provincial government in 1992. The hospital spans a combined floor area of 348,600 square meters and includes a brain branch hospital, a women's and children's branch hospital, and two branch hospitals in Hanting District and Binhai Economic and Technological Development Zone. ​
