Dr. Joseph Paul de Bono is a Consultant Cardiologist and Electrophysiologist specializing in the diagnosis and treatment of heart rhythm disorders. He completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Cambridge and the University of Oxford, graduating in 1999. Dr. de Bono pursued specialist training in cardiology in Norwich and Cambridge, furthering his expertise with a DPhil from the University of Oxford, focusing on the cardiovascular effects of exercise. His research contributions earned him the British Heart Rhythm Society Young Investigator Award in 2007. Dr. de Bono has held academic positions, including lecturing at St Hugh’s College, Oxford, and completed advanced training in electrophysiology through a fellowship at the Heart Hospital in London. He currently practices at University Hospitals Birmingham, where he leads the electrophysiology service and contributes to an active fellowship program. His clinical interests encompass all aspects of arrhythmia management, including ablation procedures, pacemaker and defibrillator implantation, and the treatment of atrial fibrillation, supraventricular tachycardia, and syncope. Dr. de Bono is also involved in research and has published widely in the fields of exercise physiology, electrophysiology, device therapy, and arrhythmias in adult congenital heart disease. He was elected to the council of the British Heart Rhythm Society in 2018 and has served as an examiner for the society. Additionally, he has contributed to the British Cardiac Society as a member of its program committee.
