Dr. Chathri Amaratunge

Dr. Chathri Amaratunge has 12 years of experience in ophthalmology, having completed her MBBS in 2008 from the University of Sydney and her FRANZCO in 2015. After completing her medical degree, Dr. Amaratunge worked as an intern and resident in Sydney, gaining experience in general medicine and surgical procedures. She then specialized in ophthalmology and became a Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists (FRANZCO) in 2015.

Dr. Amaratunge specializes in cataract surgery, glaucoma management, retinal diseases, and pediatric ophthalmology. She is skilled in laser-assisted cataract surgery and advanced techniques for managing retinal diseases such as macular degeneration and diabetic retinopathy. Since relocating to Wagga Wagga in 2016, Dr. Amaratunge has been providing comprehensive eye care, treating a wide range of ophthalmic conditions and performing surgical interventions.

Dr. Amaratunge has contributed to ophthalmology research, particularly in retinal diseases, glaucoma treatments, and innovations in cataract surgery. Her research interests include advanced surgical techniques for retinal detachment, glaucoma progression, and early detection methods for age-related macular degeneration (AMD). She has published in well-known ophthalmology journals on minimally invasive surgery for retinal disorders and improvements in cataract surgery recovery.
