Dr. Patel received his bachelor's degree in anthropology-zoology from the University of Michigan in 1991. He then received his medical degree from Wayne State University School of Medicine in 1995. Dr. Patel chose family medicine because he felt that in addition to allowing him to maintain strong relationships with patients, it would also enable him to continue to satisfy his curiosity and lifelong love of learning. He completed his family practice residency program in 1998, where he served as the Chief Resident at Oakwood Hospital and Medical Center in Dearborn, Michigan
