Sagar Doshi is a highly experienced consultant cardiologist specialising in interventional cardiology and valvular heart disease, with a focus on TAVI (Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation), mitral regurgitation, heart valve surgery, echocardiography, and ambulatory blood pressure monitoring. He privately practises at The Harborne Hospital - part of HCA Healthcare, and his NHS base is Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham.
Professor Doshi is the director of the TAVI programme at Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham, where he initiated the service in 2008. To date, he has performed over 1,800 TAVI procedures for patients with severe aortic stenosis, and more than 2,200 percutaneous coronary interventions (including angioplasties and coronary stents). In addition to his expertise in aortic valve interventions, Professor Doshi specialises in Transcatheter Edge-to-Edge Repair (TEER), an innovative treatment for mitral and tricuspid regurgitation, providing cutting-edge care for complex valvular heart diseases.
After completing his MBChB and BSc (Hons) from the University of Wales in 1990, Professor Doshi embarked on a distinguished career in cardiology. He went on to be awarded an MD from the Wales Heart Research Institute, supported by a British Heart Foundation Junior Research Fellowship. He then completed an Interventional Cardiology Fellowship at the world-renowned Mount Sinai Hospital in New York, USA. Upon returning to the UK in 2002, Professor Doshi joined the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham.
