Bethesda Serukam RSU service has been started since 1956 by Pdt. John G. Bremen is an independent missionary among the Dayak tribes. He opened a small health clinic at the Rehoboth Sungai Betung Church which was named Bethesda. Further in 1965 the family dr. Wendell G. Geary from the WorldVenture-American Mission came to Indonesia to further develop this clinic into a Bethesda Auxiliary Hospital in Sungai Betung, considering the need for long-term services, the hospital was gradually transferred to Lao-Serukam through the help of Ir. John Seaders and the late Pdt. U.T. Simatupang. (click on image to enlarge)In 1971-1981, a dream became a reality with the establishment of an inland hospital located in Serukam which was inaugurated by Kalbar Governor Mr. Kadarusno on February 23, 1974 with a capacity of 70 beds, at that time the buildings ready for use were: polyclinic, inpatient ward and surgery building. Gradually with God's help, year after year, surgery and midwifery wards, children's wards, ICU, administration buildings were also built. (click on image to enlarge)Since August 12, 1982, the ownership status of RSUB Serukam was officially handed over from GPIBI to Yayasan Bethesda Serukam. Furthermore, since 1982, Indonesian doctors began to arrive, among others: dr. Sri Sjamsudewi, Sp.Rad. dr. D. Francisca Badudu, Sp. B (K) Onk, dr. Rosita Siregar, dr. Husin Basir, dr. DJ William Ken and followed by several others. To meet the needs of specialist doctors since 1984, RSUB Serukam has consistently sent doctors to take specialist doctor education programs in various places both inside and outside.
