About Us :

Broadlawns Medical Center is Polk County’s only public hospital and a vital safety net for the Des Moines community. Founded in 1903, it is a nonprofit, county-owned facility governed by an elected board of trustees. Broadlawns provides acute hospital care, emergency and trauma services, inpatient and outpatient care, mental health, specialty clinics, dentistry, and a 24-hour crisis team. The hospital is a leader in medical education, with one of the Midwest’s first fully accredited Family Medicine Residency programs and fellowships in podiatry and psychiatry. Broadlawns is the largest WIC provider in Iowa and serves the state’s largest refugee population, offering culturally competent care in over 40 languages. The hospital is committed to accessible, affordable, and high-quality healthcare for all, regardless of insurance status or ability to pay
