Hospital Centro Médico del Caribe is the result of the concern of a group of young doctors, who, together with other professionals, analyzed the large unmet demand for specialized medical services and basic medical care for the population and tourists visiting the city of Colón. 

A market study showed that in 1978, there was a shortage of 246 beds. This was based on the population of the city of Colón and surrounding areas and the floating population. The potential population of the Canal Zone and military forts stationed in the Atlantic sector were not considered.

Over the years, the Caribbean Medical Center Hospital has undergone changes; the range of services has expanded, and other professionals have joined the team who share the dream of a hospital equipped with adequate technology and the human and financial resources necessary to continue the noble task of promoting the health of the people of Colon and the Panamanian family.
