In response to the need for a highly specialized unit for the comprehensive care of cancer patients in the southeastern region of the country, the construction of the Campeche State Oncology Center began with the full support of the Campeche State Government. Its head is Public Accountant Jorge Carlos Hurtado Valdez, and its Secretary of Health is Dr. Álvaro E. Arceo Ortiz. The cornerstone of the Center was laid in October 2005.

Construction

The construction process was long and laborious, with the participation of the entire governing body of the State Health Secretariat. Finally, on April 19, 2008, the bunker that would house the linear accelerator was poured, and the equipment was installed on March 5, 2009.

Opening

The State Oncology Center was inaugurated on April 7, 2009, by former President Felipe Calderón Hinojosa. This unit was created with an emphasis on functionality, comfort, and comprehensive care, in an outpatient setting, with special emphasis on personalized patient care and spacious, comfortable facilities.

The Centro Estatal de Oncología is recognized for its commitment to quality cancer care, teamwork, and continuous improvement. Studies show that, from the perspective of health personnel, the center achieves regular to good compliance with quality indicators, especially in surgical and radiotherapy services, which score highest in technical and interpersonal quality measures. The center is also noted for its efforts to address both the scientific-technical and emotional needs of patients, ensuring comprehensive and humane care.
