About Us :

Cherokee Mental Health Institute (CMHI) is a state-run psychiatric hospital located at 1251 West Cedar Loop, Cherokee, Iowa 51012. Established in 1902, it is operated by the Iowa Department of Health and Human Services. CMHI provides acute inpatient psychiatric treatment for adults, adolescents, and children in need of specialized mental health care, including those ordered by the court for competency restoration or found not guilty by reason of insanity. The facility also houses the Civil Commitment Unit for Sexual Offenders (CCUSO), a secure unit for the treatment of sexually violent predators after their prison terms

The grounds at CMHI are beautiful, with lots of wildlife. However, that's all to like at this place. The staff was awful, made me feel like I was mentally retarded. Believe me, they don't care about you.

Great place to work!! Variety of different patients, pay is great, insurance is great and other benefits. Gives you sick time, vacation time, and family sick time. Able to comp holidays and overtime to use as vacation days in future days.
