Deen Dayal Upadhyay Zonal Hospital (DDU ZH) formerly known as Ripon Hospital, is a 300 Bedded Zonal Hospital in Shimla city. It is located in the center of city above Local Bus Stand near Gurudwara Sri Guru Singh Sabha and below Lower Bazaar Shimla. The foundation stone of the Ripon Hospital was set by Viceroy of India, the Marquis of Ripon in 1882. Hospital was opened for patients- both European and Indians on 14 May 1885 by Lord Dufferin. The funds of this institution were almost wholly collected through donations The Bed strength has been increased to 300 following construction of new building in the hospital complex on March 2017. One of the main USPs of this hospital is that it is situated at the heart of city, near The Mall Shimla and is well connected via Cart Road to surrounding places.

And more than that, the doctors and attendants in the plaster room behaved very well and supportive with the patients . This kind of hospitality was not expected in a government hospital..... DDU Shimla is one of the dedicated Covid hospital in HP and medical staffs here are providing an excellent services and saving lives everyday, during once in lifetime Covid second surge in India. Recent, my family members got admitted to this hospital around mid April. I had many apprehensions on level of cares due to first, its being a government hospital and second, due to large surge, considering the hospital situations in rest of the country. However, I am happy to report that doctors, rest of the medical staff, food services and level of cleanness at this hospital is nothing but great. Hats off and heartfelt appreciation to each and every employees of DDU Shimla hospital and keep up the good work-------------------JP paul
