In the late 1940s, the world suffered from a smallpox epidemic, and young Abdulrahman, who was only four years old, was deeply affected by the suffering the disease caused in his community. After losing a family member, Abdulrahman decided to become a doctor to help people overcome illnesses. He graduated in 1972, becoming the first qualified doctor from the Eastern Province and the first Saudi to join the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists in London.
