It was renamed in honor of Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia, a prominent freedom fighter and socialist leader. The hospital is affiliated with the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Institute of Medical Sciences (ABVIMS) and serves as a major teaching and research center in Delhi.
