Since 1978, Mr. Lin Yi-shou, Chairman of the Institute, has successively established several steel companies, including Yeh Hsing, Yeh Long, Yeh Hui, Yeh Lian, Lian Gang and Yeh Mao, creating many miracles and contributions to Taiwan's steel industry. More than a decade ago, in gratitude for his mother's kindness, the Chairman founded "I-Shou University" in Dashu Township, Kaohsiung County, hoping that in addition to contributing to the industry, it would benefit the local community and cultivate talents for the country.

However, Chairman Lin's devotion to the community has not diminished. Seven years ago, his mother passed away due to illness, which made the chairman understand the public's expectations for the medical environment. Therefore, he actively planned to set up the "Ci En Hospital" in North Kaohsiung, hoping to provide the public with a better medical environment in addition to cultivating talents. Later, considering the overall development and planning of the I-Shou University Medical School and the hospital, it was officially changed to "E-DA Hospital" at the end of 2000. In 2015, E-DA Cancer Treatment Hospital and 2016 E-DA Dachang Hospital officially started operations. In November 2021, the Pingtung County Health Industry Park-Pingtung E-DA Hospital officially broke ground and is expected to start operations in 2026.
