About Us :

The State Social Enterprise María Upegui Mental Hospital of Antioquia (HOMO) was founded on April 13, 1878, by agreement of the Medellín Municipal Corporation under the name "Hospital for the Insane." On July 27, 1888, the "Departmental Asylum" was created by Ordinance 24 of the same year.

In 1958, the new Antioquia Mental Hospital was inaugurated in the municipality of Bello, and beginning in the 1970s, the era of the social area was introduced, allowing the Hospital to fulfill its hospitalization function, abandoning the idea of an asylum institution, where the patient is seen as a whole, with rights and responsibilities.

Since 1994, with its transformation into a State-owned Social Enterprise, actions have been taken to enhance institutional competitiveness in line with changes in the competitive environment. In 2005, it was awarded quality certification under ISO 9001, version 2000, for comprehensive care for patients with psychiatric conditions through its outpatient, emergency, and hospitalization services. In 2007, it received certification under the Colombian Technical Standard for Public Management NTCGP 1000, version 2004.

They treated me very well, their nurses are very kind, the prescribed medicines helped me a lot, their 4th floor north, the pediatric floor where it was, the quality was very good, they had table juices, sheets that could be printed and they also had colors, their food is perfect and very delicious, in general I highly recommend it and there is a lot of security which I loved a lot ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

I was there for 3 days and the service was excellent. I'm Venezuelan and they treated me quickly and very kindly. However, they should expand the common areas and include more activities, like books or writing areas. Not doing anything for so long also affects the mental health of its residents.

It is located in the municipality of Bello, very close to its park. This place is quite spacious and with very good facilities. It has large green areas and there are a large number of specialists. It has service 24 hours a day. There is good security. This place is very popular since it is one of the few places in Antioquia with this specialty.
