Fiona Stanley Hospital (FSH) is the major tertiary hospital in the south metropolitan area and offers comprehensive health care services to adults, youth and children.

HealthPathways WA (external site) is a web-based portal with information on referral and management pathways helping clinicians to access appropriate services in the primary, community and
MyLearning (the WA Health learning management system) enables South Metropolitan Health Service (SMHS) to administer, deliver and record learning and development activities for its staff.
SMHS staff can access MyLearning from within and outside the WA Health network – just log in to MyLearning (external site) and click on the ‘Health Employee Login’ button.
In March 2009 the Stage One contract was awarded. Construction commenced on-site on 23 September 2009 after an extensive environmental program was undertaken, which saw more than 300 grass trees and zamias removed from the site to be replanted within the operational hospital grounds.
Native plants which are difficult to grow from seeds, including orchids and other plants, were also recovered from the site to be replanted at Fiona Stanley Hospital and nearby conservation areas at a later date.
Sixty-one quendas (southern brown bandicoots) were transferred to the Department of Environment and Conservation for relocation to Julimar Conservation Park. In addition, more than 4500 reptiles and amphibians, including frogs, snakes and lizards, were successfully relocated to Beeliar Regional Park.
In November 2010, Fiona Stanley Hospital was the winner of the WA Environment Award in the Government Leading by Example category.
There are 5 team awards, along with an overall winner, as well as 4 individual awards.
The SMHS Excellence Awards are open to staff working at South Metropolitan Health Service sites (Fiona Stanley Hospital, Rockingham General Hospital, Fremantle Hospital and Murray District Hospital), community-based services and SMHS corporate services.
The 2022 SMHS Excellence Awards were presented on Thursday 20 October 2022.
