Oslo University Hospital has a number of services for the treatment of mental health, substance abuse and addiction at Gaustad. Gaustad Hospital was opened in 1855 as the first state hospital in Norway for the treatment of people with serious mental illnesses. The hospital was built thanks to the tireless efforts of the doctor Herman Wedel Major.
