Before the establishment of the First Republic of Armenia, Armenian youth received education at universities in Russia and Europe.

Opening a university in Armenia is becoming an urgent issue, especially after the closure of a private university in Georgia.

In 1930, part of the central biochemical building was constructed, which housed the theoretical departments and the institute's management.

In 1931-32, the anatomical building was fully operational, housing the departments of morphological and forensic medicine.

Significant services in the establishment and development of the Faculty of Medicine were rendered by People's Commissar Semyon Lazarev, People's Commissar Askanaz Mravyan, University Rector Hakob Hovhannisyan, as well as representatives of the older generation of Soviet Armenian doctors, the first lecturers of the Faculty: Vahan Artsruni, Spandarat Kamsarakan, Grigor Areshyan, Levon Hovhannisyan, Arshak Hakobyan, Hambardzum Kechek, Abgar Isahakyan, Grigor Mednikyan, Paylak Hakobyan, Yeghishe Shek-Hovsepyan and others.
