The Mexican Red Cross Hospital of Puebla City was founded on October 17, 1957, under the auspices of the Mary Street Jenkins Foundation. For many years, the hospital remained unchanged; its services were basic and it operated with physicians who performed charitable works. Two important figures in the hospital's history of training physicians and nurses in the state of Puebla were Dr. Raúl Gil y Anaya, who served as a gynecologist and later as Medical Director; and Sister Martha (Order of the Josephites), who worked in patient care and teaching nursing care. In the 1980s, Mr. Valentín Diez, President of the Board of Directors, with the help of other physicians, initiated important changes to the hospital's infrastructure with the goal of expanding the services offered by the hospital: such as the blood bank, coordinated by Dr. Antonio Marín; and the Corneal Bank program led by Dr. Rene Lazcano in collaboration with the Spanish Charity. The hospital's first CT scanner was also acquired, as well as the elevator that still remains in the hospital.
