Founded in 1989 by Dr. Maria de Fátima Gomes de Luna, Hospital da Criança de Fortaleza began as a neonatal intensive care unit and expanded to include pediatric intensive care. In 1998, it became a full-fledged pediatric hospital with its own facility.
