The Baranoa Hospital ESE (Educational Health Service) has a history of providing healthcare services; first as a social assistance center offering philanthropic care, secondly as a health and hygiene center, and later formalized with the founding of the maternity center, which was responsible for providing outpatient services, dentistry, vaccinations, and growth and development programs.
As a result of health regulations, the municipal council, through Agreement No. 005 of April 14, 1994, created it as a decentralized municipal public institution, endowed with legal personality, administrative autonomy, and its own assets; called Baranoa Hospital.
Through Agreement No. 016 of March 24, 1995, it was transformed into a State Social Enterprise, with its main domicile in the municipality of Baranoa at the following address: Calle 19 No. 20-10.

His name, José de J. Gómez Heredia, was taken from the first doctor from the municipality of Baranoa, a graduate of the Faculty of Medicine of the National University in 1908. Throughout his life, he distinguished himself by his people skills, humanitarian spirit, outstanding character, and vocation for community service. He was the founder of the Baranoa Public Health Center, which was later converted into a maternity ward and then the Baranoa Hospital. This is stated in Agreement 010 of June 9, 2004, which modifies Agreement 016 of 1995.

The current administration views the José de J. Gómez Heredia Hospital of Baranoa as a more humane entity in the provision of healthcare services, through the continuous improvement of both administrative and healthcare processes, based on the principles of quality and compassion.

The ESE Hospital of Baranoa recognizes the patient as its essential element and provides its healthcare services to provide comprehensive care to the individual, their family, the community, and other settings. We have a professional, trained, and caring team of professionals with a vocation for service, prioritizing patient safety and meeting the needs of all stakeholders. We also actively participate in the development of academic training practices through Teaching-Service agreements.

In 2024, we will be the best-positioned ESE in the Atlantic, socially and institutionally recognized for its quality and warmth of service, capable of working with accreditation standards through the professionalism, training, and commitment of its human and trained team.
