In 2003, Hospital de la Familia, (Family Hospital), was created by a group of doctors seeking a higher standard of medical care that was on demand in the region. Most of the founding doctors where Gynecologists, which brings to the attention that the hospital's main focused in its first years of existence was women services. Hospital de la Mujer, (Women's Hospital), was the hospital's initial name and many locals still call the hospital by that name. In 2004, the hospital decided to expand its services to the entire family, therefore changing its name to Hospital de la Familia.
