Established in 1933 and officially inaugurated in 1938, Hôpital Ibrahim Tirichine (Faubourg) is one of Algeria’s most prominent psychiatric institutions. It has played a pivotal role in the evolution of mental health care in the region, particularly during the colonial era. Under the leadership of Dr. Frantz Fanon, the hospital became a center for progressive psychiatric practices, focusing on patient dignity and challenging colonial-era psychiatric methods.
