The hospital is named after Dr. Ismael Euclides Roldán Valencia,
a surgeon and psychiatrist from the National University of Colombia. He is also a researcher at the School of Social Communication and Journalism at Sergio Arboleda University.

He was Dean of Medicine and previously Vice-Rector General of the National University, where he also served as Honorary Professor. Among the recognitions received for his academic career are: the National Prize for Social and Human Sciences from the Alejandro Ángel Escobar Foundation, the Scientific Merit Award for Dissemination by the Caracol ABC radio program, directed by Fernando Barrero of the Colombian Association for the Advancement of Science; he was appointed Evaluator of the Postgraduate Program in Alternative Medicines at the Faculty of Medicine of the UNCB, Faculty of Medicine, National University (Minutes No. 18, May 28, 2004. Official Document VA 324); and the Life and Work of a Colombian Psychiatrist from the Colombian Journal of Psychiatry. His arguments were cited in the explanatory statement of Bill 157 of 2007 of the Senate of the Republic in July 2007
