About Us

Hospital Municipal Carlos Chagas is a general hospital exclusively serving the public health system (SUS), managed by Fundação São Francisco Xavier since 2016. It is the main reference hospital for the 12 municipalities of the Itabira microregion, providing care in 18 medical specialties. The hospital features modern infrastructure, continuous improvements, and a strong commitment to quality, safety, and patient-centered care. Originally built by Vale S.A. and inaugurated in 1975, the hospital has undergone several administrative changes and expansions, including a major upgrade in November 2020. HMCC played a crucial role during the COVID-19 pandemic, expanding its ICU capacity and becoming a main treatment center in the region.
