Founded in 1876 by the Brazilian Imperial Family and named in honor of Empress Thereza Cristina, Hospital Santa Teresa is a historic and leading healthcare institution in the Região Serrana of Rio de Janeiro. Since 1900, it has been managed by the Sisters of the Associação Congregação de Santa Catarina, who have guided its mission of providing compassionate, high-quality care. The hospital is a regional reference in cardiology, neurosurgery, vascular surgery, orthopedics, and traumatology. It serves both private patients and those under the Brazilian Unified Health System (SUS), offering 165 inpatient beds, four intensive care units (including coronary and neonatal/pediatric ICUs), and comprehensive outpatient and emergency services.
