The Hospital Universitário Professor Polydoro Ernani de São Thiago (HU/UFSC) is the only federal hospital in Santa Catarina. Inaugurated in 1980, it was conceived as a center for teaching, research, and extension, serving both the local community and the entire state, as well as tourists and visitors. The hospital is a reference for medium and high-complexity cases, especially in oncology, complex surgery, and clinical specialties. It operates exclusively through Brazil’s public health system (SUS), providing free, high-level, and humanized care.
