Howard University Hospital (HUH), founded in 1862 as Freedmen’s Hospital, is a private, nonprofit teaching hospital in Washington, D.C. It is the only hospital on the campus of a historically Black university and is nationally recognized for its leadership in health equity, medical education, and community service. HUH is a Level I Trauma Center and offers a comprehensive range of primary, secondary, and tertiary care, with a special focus on serving underserved and minority populations. The hospital is a major training site for Black physicians and health professionals, with strong programs in surgery, oncology, and community health. Dr. Lori L. Wilson was a trailblazing cancer surgeon and division chief of surgical oncology at HUH, renowned for her work in translational research, community engagement, and health disparities
