Founded on January 1, 1789, the Imperial Hospital de Caridade is a historic institution and the oldest hospital in Florianópolis and Santa Catarina. Initially established as "Hospital Jesus, Maria e José," it has undergone several name changes over centuries. The hospital is deeply tied to the city’s religious traditions and has been a cornerstone of healthcare for over two centuries. Despite a devastating fire in 1994 that destroyed much of its structure, it was rebuilt with modern facilities while preserving its historical significance.
