The origins of the development of hematology and blood service in Armenia date back to the 30s of the last century, when a special group of specialists arrived in Yerevan from Moscow at the suggestion and under the direct leadership of our compatriot Professor A.A. Baghdasarov for the purpose of promoting donation and organizing blood service.
In 1933, the foundation was laid for the history of the Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion of Armenia with the establishment of a branch of the Moscow Central Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion in Yerevan.
Since 1939, the Armenian branch of the Moscow Institute of Blood Transfusion has been operating as the republican blood transfusion station of Armenia. At the same time, blood transfusion departments were opened in Leninakan (Gyumri) under the leadership of S. Tovmasyan and in Kirovakan (Vanadzor) under the leadership of E. Aslanyan.
In Yerevan in 1947 On March 17, by a special resolution of the Council of Ministers, the Scientific Research Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion was established on the basis of the Blood Transfusion Station, which in 1993 was renamed the Hematology Center (HC) after Professor R.H. Yolyan of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Armenia.
