Our hospital is the only general hospital in the Miyako region (population: approximately 72,000 (as of December 1, 2023)), which consists of four municipalities: Miyako City, Yamada Town, Iwaizumi Town, and Tanohata Village, and is one of the nine core hospitals of Iwate Prefecture. We cover the largest area and population of any coastal medical district in Iwate Prefecture.

In addition to hyper-acute treatment such as accepting doctor helicopters, we are mainly responsible for acute treatment, such as responding to more than 3,000 ambulances per year. We have been working to improve treatment outcomes by starting cardiac catheter treatment (percutaneous coronary intervention) for patients with acute myocardial infarction and angina pectoris since July 2013. In cancer treatment, we are designated as a regional cancer treatment hospital and provide multidisciplinary treatment in cooperation with Iwate Medical University, such as surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation therapy. In 2016, we were designated as a regional medical support hospital (the fifth in the prefecture), and we provide medical care for referred patients and emergency medical care, aiming to ensure regional medical care. Meanwhile, while the integration of obstetrics and gynecology departments across medical areas is progressing due to the declining birthrate and chronic shortage of perinatal medical personnel, our hospital has established a system where you can give birth with peace of mind (certified as a regional perinatal maternal and child medical center in 2013).
