Our hospital is located near Sendai Station and aims to "contribute to medical care in close contact with the local community." Its history dates back to the Sendai Railway Clinic, which opened within the Sendai Station premises in 1919, and then opened as Sendai Railway Hospital in 1921, making it the second oldest hospital in Sendai after Tohoku University Hospital. It is a corporate hospital run by East Japan Railway Company (JR East Japan), which changed its name to its current name in 1988, but has responded to the various medical and health needs of local residents through regional medical cooperation with medical institutions in Miyagi Prefecture. Currently, it is a general hospital with 15 medical departments (31 doctors), 207 non-doctor medical professionals (nurses, pharmacists, clinical laboratory technicians, etc.), 260 employees including other staff, and 164 inpatient beds (123 operational beds). Since 1996, we have successively opened an Endoscopy Center, a Vascular Treatment Center, and a Chemotherapy Room as specialized facilities within the hospital, and in 2003 we registered as an acute care hospital, providing specialized medical care and acute care in each field.
γWith the advent of a super-aging society, the medical needs of our country are changing year by year. According to the results of the Miyagi Prefecture Elderly Population Survey (2023), the aging rate (the proportion of people aged 65 and over to the total population) was 29.1%, up 0.3 points from the previous year, and according to the population estimates of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications, it is expected to exceed 40.0% in 20 years.
