This hospital is an old hospital with a long history. It was founded in 1914 during the Japanese colonial period and was established by the Taiwan Governor's Office. It was originally named "Takao Hospital" and the Japanese Ueda Yoshito was appointed as the director. At that time, there were only three departments: internal medicine, surgery, and ophthalmology. Later, the name was changed to "Taiwan Governor's Office Kaohsiung Hospital" with the place name, and it was located at No. 11, East and West Lane 2, Shanxia Village, Gushan District. In 1941, there were 143 beds.
γγIn 1945, after World War II, it was renamed "Taiwan Provincial Kaohsiung Hospital" and Mr. Weng Jiaqi served as the first president. At the same time, eight new departments were added, including obstetrics and gynecology, pediatrics, otolaryngology, dermatology, and urology. On July 1, 1979, Kaohsiung City was upgraded to a municipality and renamed "Kaohsiung Municipal Minsheng Hospital".
γγIn July 2003, the hospital was designated as a first-level start-up hospital for infectious diseases. In 2007, it was renamed the Infectious Disease Response Hospital and assumed the responsibility of the infectious disease hospital in the Kaohsiung, Kaohsiung and Pingtung regions. In 2008, it was rated as "Excellent in the New Hospital Evaluation and Passed in the Teaching Hospital Evaluation".
