Kaushalya Medical Foundation was formed in 1985 to fulfill the demand of increasing healthcare needs of Thane city and district. The founders of the trust  Dr H S Bhanushali , Dr M V Sohoni and Dr (Mrs) A H Bhanushali had envisioned that affordable medical treatment particularly for surgical fields like General Surgery, Orthopedics, Gynaecology, etc were needed for the fast growing middle class bastion that is- Thane and surrounding areas and hence the name “Kaushalya” which denoted the skill that the doctors use to perform a surgery was chosen. With this in mind a small hospital was started near Thane station ( near present day McDonalds) which had primarily general ward beds and an Operation Theatre. Young Doctors especially surgeons from Thane used to operate at extremely low cost and many times free as well. Soon this hospital got a name and a few years later it was renovated and expanded with donation from Trustee Shri Rajan Sujanani, at the same place with addition of a few more beds and an OT. Hundreds of patients availed treatment at very low cost at this hospital. The Trustees knew that a Not for Profit approach is best and made a huge effort to scale this model to a higher level. With tremendous efforts and hard work their efforts bore fruits and a 100 bed tertiary care hospital was set up on 21 st Dec 2002 at Panchpakhadi with a grand inauguration. At the time, it was the only Trust hospital in Thane with state of Art facilities equal to many Mumbai hospitals and was the largest pvt sector hospital in Thane. The hospital was designed keeping in mind patient comfort as the centrepoint.
