Vision & Mission

The strategic direction and purpose of Midland Regional Hospital Portlaoise (MRHP) are embedded within the broader goals and objectives of the Dublin Midlands Hospital Group (DMHG) and the Health Service Executive (HSE). The hospital aims to provide comprehensive healthcare services, which align with national health strategies and meet the local community's needs.

A key focus for MRHP includes enhancing Women & Infants Services to ensure top-quality outcomes for all patients requiring obstetrical or gynaecological care. This includes the development of a maternity clinical network with Coombe Women and Infants University Hospital and implementing the National Maternity Strategy, which emphasizes universal access to anomaly scans and a community midwifery program​​.

Moreover, MRHP is involved in the critical care and trauma services development, aiming to expand and improve these essential services as part of the DMHG's strategic planning. This involves building a hub and spoke model for trauma care, linking MRHP with larger facilities like St James’s Hospital and Tallaght Hospital​​.

Awards & Recognition

Midland Regional Hospital Portlaoise has recognized its nursing and midwifery staff through the H.E.A.R.T awards, celebrating excellence in their fields. The awards spotlight honesty, empathy, accountability, respect, and teamwork among the hospital's healthcare professionals. In the inaugural event, several individuals were honored for their significant contributions during challenging times, particularly through the COVID-19 pandemic.

Notable awardees include Sr. Mareena Shiji Mole Mathew, who received the overall Nurse or Midwife of the Year Award for her exemplary care standards and advocacy for patients. Melissa Dunne was awarded the Nurse Leader of the Year for her role during the pandemic, managing both day services and the COVID ward. Emma Mullins received the Midwife Leader of the Year award for her compassionate care and leadership, and Ann Marie O'Shea was recognized as the Developing Practice Nurse or Midwife Leader of the Year for her dedication and support during the pandemic.
