The National Hospital of Tropical Diseases (NHTD) is Vietnam’s leading tertiary care center for infectious and tropical diseases, directly overseen by the Ministry of Health. Its origins trace back to 1862, with major developments in 1911 (Cong Vong Hospital), and subsequent expansions. In 2008, it became an independent hospital, having previously been the infectious disease department of Bach Mai Hospital. The hospital is renowned for its pivotal role in managing outbreaks such as SARS and COVID-19, and for its expertise in treating severe infectious diseases. It houses the Oxford University Clinical Research Unit (OUCRU) and collaborates on major research projects in infectious diseases
