Our hospital opened 111 years ago in 1909 as an army hospital, and in 1945 became the National Morioka Hospital under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Health and Welfare. In 1953, it was renamed the National Morioka Sanatorium as a tuberculosis sanatorium (210 beds under the Medical Care Act), and in 1970, it added a stroke rehabilitation ward and was renamed the National Sanatorium Morioka Hospital (250 beds) in 1977. In 1993, it was merged with the National Hanamaki Onsen Hospital (300 beds), and a four-story ward and outpatient department were newly built, and it continues to exist today. In 2004, about 150 national hospitals nationwide became independent administrative institutions, and our hospital was restarted as the National Hospital Organization Morioka Hospital, and in 2019, it opened a new pediatrics and severely mentally and physically disabled ward and was renamed the National Hospital Organization Morioka Medical Center (260 beds).
