Newham University Hospital opened on December 14, 1983, replacing Queen Mary's Hospital for the East End and East Ham Memorial Hospital. It was initially named Newham General Hospital and underwent several expansions, including the addition of a maternity department in 1985 and further development in 1986 with new facilities. The hospital's name was changed to Newham University Hospital in 2004. It provides acute general hospital services and is known for its commitment to serving the local community with a broad range of medical services.
