Hospital Beds & Infrastructure

I had my first baby here. If you know what you want, Mamas, then these midwives are not too pushy and most of them do care about helping women give birth to their babies in a healthy way. But I need to stress, learn as much as you can about birth and what happens before, during, and after to you and baby. You are responsible for your birth and baby, and only you two will feel the effects of your decisions for the rest of your life. I was planning for a home birth, but I developed preeclampsia, and this situation really does call for an induction. I got a good recommendation for this hospital, and so I chose it to give birth at.

I got to do the important things here. They supported my decision for delayed cord clamping, until the cord was pulseless and white. I took my placenta home. The nurses and doctors were respectful of privacy as well. It's still a hospital, though, and the reality is you are on a timeline so you must always advocate for you, no matter the schedules and protocols.

I wish I had eaten more, and I wish I had a pool or shower to ease labor and relax more. If you can get a caring doula, get one, it made all the difference in the hospital. If I didn't have a doula, I would have felt much worse. Birth is a wonderful rite of passage, embrace it.

Furthermore, this hospital is very supportive of breastfeeding, and I got so many tips and support from the nurses. It can be overwhelming, but the fact that it is a supportive environment for breastfeeding helped me to keep going. Maybe someone might find the reminders annoying, but I needed it.

Finally, my baby had to go to the NICU, so I couldn't start breastfeeding in a better way, and I couldn't do a Lotus Birth, but the nurses in the NICU were so kind and supportive and knowledgeable! I will never forget them. They did their best for my baby. And they were respectful of privacy as well for breastfeeding.
