I took over as director of Otaru City Hospital on April 1, 2021 (Reiwa 3), succeeding Director Yuichiro Shinno. Otaru City Hospital was newly built and merged two municipal hospitals, and opened on December 1, 2014 (Heisei 26), marking its seventh year this year.
During this time, it is no exaggeration to say that the six years were filled with hardships, including the Hokkaido Eastern Iburi Earthquake on September 6, 2018, and the pandemic that began with the WHO's announcement on January 5, 2020 regarding the COVID-19 pandemic. Even under these circumstances, we celebrated our 90th anniversary in 2018, successfully held commemorative events, and recently underwent a hospital function evaluation by the Japan Council for Quality Health Care.
Furthermore, on April 1, 2021, we were able to upgrade from a regional cancer treatment hospital to a regional cancer treatment coordination base hospital.
Our hospital focuses on the four main pillars of medical care: cancer treatment, stroke, cardiovascular disease, and dementia. We aim to provide the latest and best medical care in an excellent medical environment and to operate as an efficient hospital.
Otaru City Hospital's original position, that is, the basic philosophy of aiming to be a "regional core hospital that is trusted by citizens and provides high-quality comprehensive medical care."
