So I feel compelled to give this E.R. the good press it deserves. I have lived in Portland, OR most of my 45 years, and I am a knucklehead of sorts, so I am overly familiar with all of the local hospitals. And although I have had positive experiences at OHSU for sure, I still almost never consider going anywhere but Providence if I have a say in the matter. This hospital has the kindest, warmest, most professional staff in the city by miles. Just across the board. If you want to be met with genuine heartfelt empathy and compassion and experience a complete absence of any kind of judgement or profiling/stereotyping behaviors, regardless of what kind of hot mess you are when you wander in there…. These are your people. Along with this comes very straight forward, highly competent medical care. Also, staff is entirely unflappable, efficient and discrete when the inevitable bizarre E.R. patient chaos randomly pops off at 4am. These folks have never let me down. I really do leave this place impressed by the staff as a whole every single time. It tends to set me off on wondering why the other hospitals in the area don’t seem to ever have their staff rosters fully stacked with class acts in nearly the same way.

The wait time was long, but so worth it. I had been dealing with a periodically debilitating issue for 5 months. I had seen doctors, specialists, even another emergency room, and no one spotted the common problem that was causing my symptoms. Dr Connor and Nurse Celestine took immediate action, finding in a few minutes what others had not. I hope I never have to return to the ED, but if I do, I would choose this one.~Shylo Vallant
