Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital was established in 1932 by the British as Willingdon Hospital with only 54 beds. In 1954, control was transferred to the Central Government of Independent India. Renamed in the 1970s to honor Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia, a socialist leader, the hospital is now a 1,532-bed facility spread over 30 acres in Connaught Place, New Delhi. It is fully funded by the Government of India and is known for its extensive medical services and educational programs.
